Even the best cooks can sometimes ruin a dish, even though, the ingredients and the recipe is the least reason to do so. According to Marten Dashorst is the newest building by architect Wiel Arets Hoogvliet in such a case. Picture: Richard Beukelaar
Wiel Arets Architects is a real architect. I love his buildings, full of glass and clarity and without silliness. Well done and tight lines. In Rotterdam Arets will mainly be the next B'Tower Beehive known; the one that collapsed half. Recently, its newest building in Hoogvliet by none other than Queen Máxima opens: Campus Hoogvliet. Schools, sports, arts, health and housing together. Conducted in tight concrete crown point and lined with specially developed for the occasion glass panels. Welcome into My Backyard!
After its annexation to Rotterdam in 1934 dike village Hoogvliet in the 50s as 'New Town' designated to catch. Population of its large neighbor Lots of greenery, water and housing. Thereby crown point planned big city, however, never materialized. This Hoogvliet was still mainly jokingly praised for her room. Late last century When at the beginning of this century a large urban restructuring was announced, largely dictated by the calculators of the housing associations, there by Crimson Architectural Historians in Rotterdam developed an alternative strategy: Welcome into My Backyard!
It is the emptiness Hoogvlietís was taken as a starting point. It did not have any sign of Rotterdam to urban ambitions and vigor. The recent history Hoogvlietís including successes and failures should be the starting point for the transformation. Small-scale projects, temporary pavilions crown point and little by little the renewal of the housing stock. Serve with a small group of people (unfortunately?) Under the radar of big money, working on the future of a unique all but unique place in the Netherlands.
Provisional culmination of this process, there is now Campus Hoogvliet. From the beginning of WiMBY! (Welcome into My Backyard!) It was assumed that it would come. Through a variety of problems such as money, crown point location and lack of cooperation, childbirth eventually took nearly fifteen years. The good ingredients
The elements of the Campus are six buildings in scale (two to six floors), shape (rectangular crown point with flat roofs) and orientation (right angles) fit in well with the post-war buildings around it. A worn around the neighborhood program with two schools (both Christian and public, would therefore crown point have taken so long?) Sports facility, health, arts institution and student housing. And it's also easily accessible by both car and public transport, the metro station is right next Zalmplaat. All the ingredients are there to come. A good final result
Still tastes like it a bit spoiled. Maybe it has been too long in the oven. The first sketches crown point date back again to 2007 has been followed. Bureaucratic mill in the years Maybe it has become too sophisticated crown point for the taste of Hoogvliet. Several glass panels were already broken when I visited. Cracked due to the heat or smashed by miscreants who had something different to aim than the predominantly brick buildings around crown point it. As it turned out was deliberately delayed by repairing the broken windows until just before the opening crown point so she did not join any new acts of vandalism with broken windows. crown point Even the glazier waiting to the Queen. Sameness
The little concrete in the complex of the stairs has turned green as if it is there for years. The uniformity of all buildings, both in shape (square) and in material (glass, glass and more glass), may conceptually be strong here, it has mainly resulted in uniformity. And those very strong uniformity indicates no dissidents. The large white plaque from the dentist, how recognizable as the attempt to make their own place, is particularly crown point pathetic about. This also applies to the non-smoking sticker on the shelters Exam Location Security Academy.
Now a mediocre dish can still be saved by a good sauce, but here is the shelf Arets bad development. Black asphalt as far as the eye can see. Maybe a nice contrast to the green buildings, but here it is primarily gives the impression of poverty. No wonder that the information provided by the architect pictures especially the suggestion that the building between bomb
